Sing “Fair Trade Dayenu” at your Seder

Passover Seder Song Contest WinnersTalia Cooper's song from our 2013 song contest went viral, and you'll love it as well! Her rendition of the familiar Dayenu song raises the contemporary Passover story of children enslaved in cocoa fields in an inspiring and fun way.

You can watch Talia's YouTube video and download the lyrics for your own Seder experience.

Fair Trade Chocolate Charoset Recipe

Fair Trade Chocolate CharosetWhat better way is there to celebrate having Fair Trade Kosher for Passover chocolate than making a chocolate flavored charoset? Thanks to Oakland vegan chef and caterer, Philip Gelb, for creating this recipe just for Fair Trade Judaica to share with you! At the bottom of the recipe page, you'll find a special Chocolate Charoset reading for your seder.

Resources to Fair Trade Your Passover Seder

Fair Trade Your SederAs we celebrate our people’s freedom during Passover, let us remember that others are still enslaved. Fair Trade Judaica has developed several readings that you can add to your Haggada during your Passover Seder, focusing on the role of trafficked and enforced child labor in the cocoa fields. There are photos of cocoa beans that you can download for free and place on your Seder plate, symbolizing that slavery is still, unfortunately, a contemporary issue.

Fair Trade News

Sindyanna of Galilee LogoSindyanna of Galilee, Israel’s only organization with fair trade certification, just won the Silver Medal in the national First of Harvest annual competition by the Israel Olive Board. In 2015, they also won the ExtraGold Medal in Italy’s Biol International Competition, adding them to the list of “Best Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oils of the World”. Sindyanna of Galilee is a female-led, fair-trade NGO promoting the concept of "business for peace" in Israel by selling Arab producers’ olive oil in the international marketplace and channeling all of the profits back into Arab women education while bridging cultural divides, encouraging sustainable agriculture, and supporting organic farming.

Purim Blog Post

Nepal Earthquake Update

Mahaguthi ArtisansWe are sadly remembering the devastating earthquake that hit Nepal and our fair trade partner, Mahaguthi, almost one year ago. We asked Sunil Chitrakar, Mahaguthi’s director for an update. “We are fine… just too many things to get done and time ticking faster than before. The situation is bit easier compared to a few months back. It’s going to be a year soon. But still I feel earthquake and dream about it. Still people living in shelters. I have recently travelled to severely affected districts, and see the pain, trauma and challenges. People have still not started building their homes, either they don’t have money or simply waiting for government’s announcement. We are now giving small interest free loans to some of our staff and producers to help build their houses. We are planning to conduct a training in an area where we might have future producers. We might do more of these activities in days ahead to help their livelihood opportunities.”

Because of the earthquake, the development and printing of a new set of Jewish Healing Flags was delayed for several months. FTJ is excited to announce that we’ve just received word that the first batch is complete and they’re in transit. We’re grateful to have this new product for you, and that our order provided desperately needed work after the earthquake.
