Help Support our Nepali Artisans -
Buy a Blessing Flag/We'll Make a Donation

Mahaguthi ArtisansWe have been a bit frantic following the two big earthquakes in Nepal, but have made contact with Mahaguthi, our fair trade artisan partner in Kathmandu who produces our Jewish Blessing Flags (and a new set of Healing Flags that were just starting production when the first earthquake hit). Luckily, all of the artisans survived, but many lost family members and their homes. We consider them part of our family and want to support them.
For every Jewish Blessing Flag ordered through June 30, FTJ will donate $10.00 (40% of the retail price) for earthquake relief and reconstruction. Donations will be go through SERRV, one of the oldest fair trade organizations in the US. They are working with four artisan partner groups (including Mahaguthi) and giving grants where the money is most needed. We'd like to sell out our current inventory of 103 sets of flags so we can place a BIG order and have good paying work waiting for them!
Support the artisans!

Fair Trade Shabbat Report Back

Fair Trade Judaica initiated "Fair Trade Shabbat" to provide a way for the Jewish community to observe and celebrate World Fair Trade Day, which always falls on Shabbat. This year we are honored that the Rabbinical Assembly of the Conservative Movement adopted and promoted Fair Trade Shabbat to their congregations.
We are so excited to receive this guest blog post from Rabbi Robin Damsky of West Suburban Temple Har Zion, and how her confirmation class and congregation celebrated Fair Trade Shabbat – it's absolutely inspiring!

FTJ Event With Author
Betsy Teutsch

100 Under $100 - Tools for Empowering Global WomenOver 45 people were inspired by Betsy Teutsch sharing stories from her new book, "100 Under $100 – Tools for Empowering Global Women" at a book launch party hosted by FTJ at the end of April. She told stories about solar lanterns (and demonstrated with one), affordable and safer ways to transport water, and new technology that makes planting seeds and threshing crops easier, faster and safer. Betsy learned about the positive impacts of fair trade while researching the book, and has identified it as tool #93. She generously donated 50 copies to FTJ to support our work – you can buy one at our online auction in June!
