World Fair Trade Day - Shabbat May 11

World Fair Trade Day - Shabbat May 11World Fair Trade Day (WFTD) is the largest Fair Trade event of the year in North America and around the world, and falls on Shabbat, May 11 this year. It's a special day to promote Fair Trade and campaign for trade justice together with farmers and artisans. Here are some ideas on how to celebrate WFTD at your synagogue, along with some new recipes to accompany an Oneg Shabbat or Kiddush lunch!

FTJ is Hosting an On-Line Auction

Come join in the fun as we raise money so we can expand our educational work across the country! We will be hosting an on-line auction starting June 2 -keep your eyes open for further updates.
We are seeking (tax deductible) donations of mission-related or big-ticket items for the auction. Your special items can make a big difference to our success! If you'd like to contribute something, contact ilana@fairtradejudaica.org.

Swirling Hamsa PendantHere is a beautiful new Swirling Hamsa Pendant made by the artisan group, Munay Rumi in Peru, and available from Partners for Just Trade. This is a new piece of their Judaica collection, which also includes a Star of David and a Hamsa Pendant with a Peruvian turquoise stone.
New Women's Kippot Styles and ColorsFTJ is delighted to add several new styles and colors to our line of crocheted and beaded women's kippot. These exquisite kippot, now available in eight different designs and ten color combinations, can be purchased at our on-line store.

New Fair Trade Fundraising Program

Equal Exchange FundraisingEqual Exchange is setting up a new on-line fundraising program, starting in Fall 2013 to complement its current catalogue fundraising program. Your organization can set up your own online store and sell to friends and family across the country; Equal Exchange will ship the orders directly to your customers. We were overwhelmed with the response and thoughtfulness of your answers to the survey we sent out a few weeks ago - THANK YOU!! The winner of the raffle for the glass hamsah is Janet Pollack, who runs the gift shop at Temple Adat Shalom in Poway, CA. She "is dedicated to Tikkun Olam (repairing our world) and excited that the growth of Fair Trade will help her do that." Watch for some changes that we'll be making in response to your suggestions! And, if you didn't win the hamsah but would like to purchase it, click here!
