Exciting News!
Fair Trade Judaica (FTJ) is excited to be accepted into the UpStart Bay Area Program as one of five new social entrepreneurial ventures. UpStart Bay Area will provide FTJ with a community of peer learning and support, and consultative and coaching assistance to help us develop into an effective and sustainable organization. We are looking forward to learning with them!

As part of our growth, we have also recruited an outstanding Advisory Board to help guide us in this process. Members represent a broad spectrum of the Jewish community nationally, and bring expertise and experience in a variety of fields, including the fair trade movement, wholesale and retail markets, information technology, arts and crafts, and start-up ventures. Please check out our website to learn more about our team.

Celebrate Pesach by helping to "Liberate"
child cocoa workers

Slavery still exists in our world, and one example is the use of child slaves in Africa to harvest cocoa. Global Exchange has written a beautiful piece, "Next Year, an End to Slavery in the Cocoa Fields" for use during Pesach; please read the piece and send your letter requesting fair trade cocoa be used in making chocolate.

News from the Fair Trade Federation Conference
Fair Trade Judaica just returned from the Fair Trade Federation’s 2009 annual conference in Portland. The Fair Trade Federation is the trade association in the United States that strengthens and promotes wholesalers, retailers, and community supporters (like FTJ) that are fully committed to the fair trade movement.

It was inspiring to be in a community of people whose purpose is to bring equity to international trade, and who warmly welcomed Fair Trade Judaica into the community. At the conference we personally met many of the businesses that bring our Judaica products into the U.S. We began designing several new Judaica products (glass menorahs, tallitot) and made connections with fair trade stores around the U.S. who are interested in adding Judaica products to their inventory.
