Fair Trade Judaica

Winter 2008 Newsletter

WELCOME to our first quarterly newsletter. We have a lot of exciting news to share with you.

Our Fair Trade Judaica website, www.fairtradejudaica.org, was launched last September, and word has been spreading. We are receiving over 1,000 visits a month from people in over 25 countries, including Israel, Germany, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Mexico.

We have been showing samples of fair trade Judaica products to synagogue gift stores and Judaica shops and many have already ordered or are in the process of ordering them to sell. We will be adding a listing of these stores to our website soon, so please let us know if you have a synagogue or Judaica store near you which carries fair trade Judaica products.

New Fair Trade Judaica Products
We have so far discovered more than 15 artisan and food cooperatives which currently produce over 40 different fair trade Judaica items! These range from holiday ritual items to mezuzot, linens, banners and more. Many reflect the cultural designs from Asia, Africa, Latin America, and Ethiopia where they are produced. They are all beautiful and well-made. Check out what is available at NEW Products and Where to Buy Fair Trade Judaica.

Several of the artisan groups have expressed interest in developing new Judaica items, such as key rings with a beaded Star of David, centerpieces for special events, a 3-dimensional wire Star of David or dreidel. Click on the "Let us know" link below if you're interested in any of these, or if there is a Judaica item that you would like developed by a fair trade producer.
