Thanksgiving Coffee
Thanksgiving Coffee is a family run business begun in 1972, and now roasts over 600,000 pounds of coffee annually, employing 30 local residents receiving health and dental care, paid vacations, sick and maternity leave, and all major holidays with pay for the past 25 years.
Committed to leaving a light ecological footprint, Thanksgiving Coffee continuously strives to find ways to lessen their impact on the environment, from farm to cup.
- They buy all their coffee from small family farms and cooperatives in Guatemala, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Uganda, and Nicaragua They buy many organic and shade grown coffees that provide critical winter habitat for migratory song birds and can be integrated with many other crops to provide a healthy ecosystem that does not require petrochemical based fertilizers or pesticides
- work directly with farmers to help increase access to knowledge and resources that will allow them to transition into more sustainable farming practices
- partnered with the organization Trees for the Future to plant shade-trees on coffee farms in Rwanda, to help restore biodiversity on the farms and hopefully make organic farming possible there in the future
